Nobody sticks with breakfast they dread. This one tastes like the inside of a peanut butter cup and still gets 24 grams of protein into you before you leave the house.
Ingredients
- 2 scoops Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix, Dutch Chocolate
- 2 scoops Protein Drink Mix
- 250ml cold trim milk (or unsweetened almond milk)
- 1 heaped teaspoon natural peanut butter
- Half a frozen banana
- 4–5 ice cubes
- Pinch of flaky salt
Method
- Put the milk in the blender first — liquid at the bottom stops the powder caking against the blade.
- Add the banana, peanut butter and ice, then the two powders on top.
- Blend on high for 30 seconds. Stop, scrape down the sides, blend another 10 seconds.
- Add the salt last and pulse once. It sounds odd, but salt is what makes the chocolate taste like chocolate rather than cocoa.
Why it works
Formula 1 brings the balance of protein, carbohydrate and micronutrients; the Protein Drink Mix lifts total protein to around 24g, which is roughly the threshold most people need to actually feel full until lunch. The banana is there for texture as much as sweetness — frozen fruit is what separates a thick shake from a thin one.
Make it work harder
Training in the morning? Swap the trim milk for 200ml milk plus 50ml water and drink it 45 minutes before you start. Trying to keep calories tighter? Drop the peanut butter to half a teaspoon and use water instead of milk.
